The words “annexation” of Putin’s four Ukrainian provinces dominate the coverage. And they point out the striking similarity to the 1930s in Europe. However, if “annexation” is the issue, we should also point out the “annexations” that took place in East Asia during the same period. The Japanese “annexation” of Korea and Manchuria. The Pacific War, which began with the annexation of Korea and Manchuria, ended with the dropping of two atomic bombs. Now that we are in a situation reminiscent of World War III, nuclear weapons are no longer a means of conflict resolution. In my opinion, Japan is the only country in the world that can issue a self-corrected admonition not to repeat foolishness, based on the annexation and the world’s first nuclear attack.
